Nyali Golf Course – Challenging Holes & Course Characteristics 

Hole No. 3 – Par 3 | 184 Yards | Stroke Index 13

Hole 3 is considered one of the most challenging holes at Nyali Golf Course. It features the smallest green on the course, making accuracy and precise club selection particularly important.

The hole is strongly affected by right-to-left winds, especially during the monsoon season. Golfers who naturally draw the ball need to aim towards the right side, close to the trees, to allow for the wind and the natural ball movement.

The green is undulating and protected by bunkers on both sides, with a relatively narrow entry. This makes the approach particularly demanding, as there is very little margin for error.

During the December monsoon, the 184-yard hole can play considerably longer and more challenging. A well-executed 4-iron may be required to reach the green. With a strong headwind, some golfers may even need to consider a longer club, including a driver depending on the conditions.

Key Challenge: Strong right-to-left winds, a small undulating green, narrow entry, and bunkers on both sides make precision essential.

Hole No. 7 – Par 4 | 373 Yards | Stroke Index 11

Hole 7 is a straight but narrow par 4, requiring accuracy rather than simply distance from the tee.

During the monsoon season, it becomes particularly challenging due to strong winds blowing from left to right and often against the golfer. The wind can significantly affect both the tee shot and the approach.

There is very little room for an errant tee shot. A ball that strays from the fairway can quickly find the trees on either side, making recovery difficult and potentially costing valuable strokes.

The green slopes from right to left, making it difficult to read, particularly when approaching from the wrong side or when the ball is positioned across the slope.

Key Challenge: A narrow fairway, strong crosswinds and headwinds, trees on both sides, and a sloping green make Hole 7 one of the more demanding holes during the monsoon.

Hole No. 18 – Par 3 | 169 Yards | Stroke Index 16

Hole 18 is arguably one of the most beautiful and memorable par 3s at Nyali Golf & Country Club. At 169 yards, it may appear straightforward on the scorecard, but it provides a fitting test—and a spectacular setting—for the final shot into the clubhouse.

From the tee, the golfer is presented with an inviting but demanding approach. Palm trees and mature tropical vegetation frame the hole, creating a beautiful visual corridor while making alignment and club selection especially important. The challenge is not simply to find the green, but to find the right section of it.

The putting surface has significant undulation, meaning that even a well-struck tee shot can leave a difficult first putt if it finishes on the wrong level or side of the pin. The green is further defended by three bunkers, rewarding a confident, accurately struck approach and quickly punishing anything that drifts offline.

There is also very little room to be overly aggressive. Out of bounds lies approximately five yards beyond the green, making distance control particularly important. A golfer attacking a back pin must therefore balance the temptation to go directly at the flag against the consequences of carrying the ball just a few yards too far.

But what makes the 18th particularly special is the atmosphere surrounding it.

The hole finishes directly towards the main clubhouse, providing a beautiful view as golfers complete their round and make their way up towards the clubhouse. In the evenings, the area around the 18th often comes alive, with members and guests seated nearby, relaxing and watching golfers play their final hole.

For a visiting golfer, this creates something of a natural amphitheatre. Your final tee shot may be watched by fellow golfers, friends and guests enjoying the evening at the clubhouse. A shot struck close to the flag can earn admiration from the gallery; a visit to one of the bunkers—or an ambitious shot disappearing beyond the green—can provide equal entertainment.

It gives Hole 18 a character beyond its yardage. You are not simply finishing a round—you are arriving back at the heart of Nyali Golf & Country Club.

Key Challenge: Precise tee-shot placement, three protecting bunkers, a significantly undulating green, and a tight out-of-bounds boundary beyond the putting surface demand excellent distance control and careful consideration of the pin position.
